Coaster and Coaster Holder
The design challenge of the Coaster Project was to design a set of six coaster with a design of our choice. The requirements or the Coaster Project were for it to be able to hold a cup or bottle, be a set of six and have a holder. If I were to redesign the coaster or holder, I would use a different design as well as use a different shape to cut out on. Some of the things that I learned about in lecture or demonstration were the different types of files that can be used to laser cut something else. I also learned about the rastering tool on the laser cutting program. My personal assessment of my effort on the project is that I met the requirements of making six coasters with a design of my choice and a holder for it.
The evidence and specific steps I took to meet these goals were choosing a design that would be carved onto my coaster. Then I chose what dimension and shape the coaster was going to be. I made the outline of the coaster in SolidWorks and then transformed it as a DXF file that could then be cut through to make the coaster. Everything then was assembled on Corel Draw. From doing this project I learned and got better at using the laser cutter and also using the raster tool in order to make the design more clear.
Things I struggled with were finding the right design that could be used by Corel Draw to cut out. Another struggle that I had was making a coaster holder that could hold all six of my coasters. As well, as a coaster holder that didn’t take up that much material or time.
